Dear Customers and Partners,
Up until now every WEM Project was allowed to use the Default WEM SMTP server. This allows any user to easily integrate and test e-mail functionality in their project. Many users have or are using WEM's noreply@wem.io as the sender of their e-mails in preview and tests and even in live/production. Unfortunately many users forget to use their own SMTP server and their own From-sender.
Due to the explosive growth of our userbase this is causing increasing pressure on our e-mail servers.
In addition we are increasingly at risk of getting flagged as a source of spam e-mails due to users sending e-mails from our SMTP with their domain as a sender.
Therefore we have decided to stop offering a default SMTP server.
Starting 1-3-2024 (March 2024) you will no longer be able to send e-mails using the Default SMTP server.
You have until that date to make the necessary changes in your projects.

See SMTP Settings in our online documentation for information about configuring SMTP and sending your messages.
Using your own (corporate) mail server for handling emails has the additional advantage of logging and providing information:
-
Also, all sent items can be found in the mailbox of the used sender – available for review, follow-up, or just evidence that a message has indeed been sent.
It is also easily possible to use a (free) Gmail account that you own, as SMTP server:

and https://support.google.com/mail/answer/185833?hl=en
and our Forum Post
Make sure that before 01-03-2024:
- You have your own SMTP Server Profiles configured and available in your workspaces.
- You have selected the correct SMTP profile on portals that send out e-mails.
- You have corrected the From-parameter on all your Email Process Nodes
(Go to Project Settings > Processes and click Find Usages on Base Library to find Email Nodes)

Exchange 365
For connections using Office365 / Exchange365, it may be necessary to add a Connector into the Exchange Admin Center.
Microsoft link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mail-flow-best-practices/use-connectors-to-configure-mail-flow/use-connectors-to-configure-mail-flow.
Use following IP addresses:
185.110.174.214
185.3.209.154
83.96.217.106
And for APAC Runtime, add 52.189.211.222
ALSO make sure that the account you use to connect to the SMTP server, has PERMISSIONS to send on behalf of the FROM address you use in the mailnodes (very important if the credentials to access the SMTP are different from the account used as sender)!
The account used must have a valid email license and an active mailbox to store and send (and receive) messages.
It also may be necessary to actively log in to the account to verify it is active!!!
